About Sarah's Sporting Clays Against Cancer

The Sarah Szafranski Endowment Fund

Sarah’s Sporting Clays Against Cancer was created as a unique event to raise funds for pediatric oncology at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, through the Sarah Szafranski Endowment Fund. 


In 2002, when 16-year-old Sarah Szafranski realized she was losing her three-year battle with cancer, she resolved to make a permanent contribution to the fight against pediatric cancer. She decided to create a self-sustaining endowment fund for research on pediatric cancer. She charged her father, Bob Szafranski, with starting the Sarah Szafranski Endowment Fund and growing it to $1 million. The fund is managed by the Orlando Health Foundation. 


Sarah was a patient at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer throughout her fight and wanted to leave a legacy of help for future pediatric cancer patients. 


We deeply appreciate all you have done in the past to support the fight against pediatric cancer in memory of Sarah Szafranski, the 16 year old who had a vision of how she could continue her battle against cancer into a future she would never see. We hope you will continue to support this fight. 


All proceeds go to the Sarah Szafranski Endowment Fund, and generous donations have been made by the Endowment each year to organizations which are actively fighting pediatric cancer. Last year, your incredible support raised $114,000. Since the first event in 2014, our participants have collectively raised over $250,000, which has gone directly into the Sarah Szafranski Endowment Fund at the Orlando Health Foundation.

How Your Donation Helps Fight Pediatric Cancer

  Sarah played an active role in making her wish become a reality. Proceeds from Sarah’s Sporting Clays benefit the Sarah Szafranski Endowment Fund in support of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Program at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Haley Center for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders.


The neuro-oncology healthcare team, led by Dr. Amy Smith, a nationally recognized pediatric neuro-oncologist, is made up of medical, nursing, psychosocial and research experts. Using a whole team approach, the entire family receives care personalized to their child’s diagnosis and needs. 


Dr. Smith and her team partner with patients and families to make good decisions about immediate and long-term health, including enrolling patients in clinical trials when conventional means of treatment don’t receive the intended results. At the Haley Center, our expert team takes a multidisciplinary approach to pediatric healthcare − we treat the whole child, not just the illness

2019 Event - Better Than Ever!

We have made a few exciting changes this year! Registration will open July 10. For the first time, we are providing opportunities at the Straight 50 level only to shoot with special guests from local healthcare institutions. Acceptances are still coming in from representatives at Nemours, Advent Health and Orlando Health and more details will be coming.


We are also introducing a VIP experience for one foursome. Shoot in style when you purchase this unique experience, beginning with local hotel accommodations for four (four rooms) the night before. Upon your arrival at the event, your team will have preferred parking and be assigned two golf carts and two concierges for the day. Your concierges will drive your team during the shoot and provide private beverage service as well as table service at lunch.


As in past years, we’ll have golf carts for every team, beverages throughout the day as well as a continental breakfast and barbecue lunch, great prizes for both the general and deluxe raffles, awards for best teams, best shooter and the dreaded Conservationist Award, and outstanding opportunities for networking.

Master of ceremonies & entertainment

Captain William Mayhem

We are happy to welcome Captain William Mayhem as MC and entertainment for our event for the third year in a row. Captain Mayhem has been a performer for over 40 years both in the US and abroad while serving in the US Air Force. He has performed in his own magic act in Las Vegas, as well as live theater, television, and anti-gang/drug seminars, safety programs and as a motivational speaker. 


A St. Augustine native, he is the face and voice of the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum, as well as an event promoter and coordinator with the St. Augustine Swashbucklers, a band of pirates dedicated to charitable giving in the St. Augustine area. Recent events have generated gifts to The American Cancer Society, Give Kids the World, Dreams Come True, food banks, school supplies drive and Christmas toy drives. 


Captain Mayhem brings his own particular brand of piracy to local elementary schools at the invitation of school administration, emphasizing collaboration and accountability with a unique pirate angle.
